Cambridge Take the Silenced Approach to NOx Reduction

Agriemach have recently delivered a complete SCR NOx Reducing assembly with a difference. This particular system fitted to a MTU 1.2MW Gas Engine offers both NOx Reduction and Silencing down to 60dB(A)@1m. The system has been fully engineered around the customers’ requirements, with future consideration over possible additional assemblies taken into account.

The scope of supply consisted of Consultation, Engineered Design with Silencing Functionality, Production and Delivery, Ancillaries Supply such as Bulk Urea Tank and Urea Transfer Pump, and Bespoke Heat Insulation to Cover both Mixing Duct and Reactor/Silencer with Service Door and Port Access as a consideration over design.

AdBlue quality is very important. The specification for the urea solution purity should be according to the standard for engine applications (see ISO 22241-1 (DIN 70070) and by ISO 22241-2 (DIN 70071) for reference). ISO 22241-1 specifies the quality characteristics of the NOx reducing agent and ISO 22241-2 specifies test methods required for determination of the quality characteristics of the NOx reducing agent specified in ISO 22241-1. Made by synthesis only, not diluted.

What is NOx?

Nitrogen Oxides are a hazard to human health.

Scientific evidence links NO2 (Nitrogen Dioxide) exposure, ranging from 30 minutes to 24 hours, with adverse respiratory effects including airway inflammation in healthy people – to increased respiratory symptoms in people with asthma.

Ozone or Smog is formed when NOx and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) react in the presence of heat and Sunlight. These particles affect anyone that comes into contact with them – they get deep into the respiratory system and alter lung tissue; causing a long term effect on human health.

Most Susceptible: Children, the elderly and people with existing lung disease.

This is the motivation for legislators to lower the NOx limits.
